Is the world going to end tomorrow? I don't know enough about the science behind this big device although it seems unlikely that we would be able to create a machine or would want to create such destruction.

too small a chance? i hope you mean zero chance, which it is. the energy that could be produced in a worst case scenario tomorrow is exceeded every day by cosmic rays.

When I first heard about the experiment I immediately thought of Half Life 1. Hopefully we won't have the same problem.

if they were running it at full power then i wouldn't be sure what to say, as far as I know producing energy at that level is uncharted territory. but they're not, I can't remember the numbers but what they're doing tomorrow is perfectly safe.

Yeah, just done some research now - apparently what they are doing is an everyday occurance in nature only in a controlled environment with magnets, detectors, computers and loads of things. It would be a shame if they didn't find anything though.
